As I previously shared with you, the board of trustees has engaged RPA, Inc. of Williamsport, PA as the search consultant for Spalding’s next president. Two members of RPA, Inc. Richard Allen and Kate Nolde will be visiting our campus next week on Wednesday, September 23 and Thursday, September 24. The purpose of their visit is to conduct listening sessions which will provide you with an opportunity to share your insights and opinions which will be used in the development of the profile of our ideal candidate. Please review the schedule and make plans to attend the time frame that best coincides with your campus role. Be advised that multiple sessions will be occurring simultaneously.

Please visit the Spalding University website and click on the Presidential Search icon for regular updates. A listing of Search Committee members is listed on the first entry. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

President Search Update: September 10, 2009

To: Spalding University Community

From: Carl M. Thomas, Chair of the Board of Trustees

Subject: Presidential Search Update

I am pleased to submit the first update regarding the Presidential Search.

1) Trustees Brian Reynolds, Serra Goethals, David Fannin and Nancy Warfield were asked by me to evaluate and select a firm to serve as a consultant in the presidential search. On July 9, 2009, requests for proposals (RFPs) were mailed to four firms, which are as follows: Storbeck/Pimentel of Media, Pennsylvania, Witt/Kieffer of Oak Brook, Illinois, Isaacson, Miller of Boston, Massachusetts, and RPA, Inc. of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Each was asked to respond by July 31, 2009. One firm felt that it had a potential conflict of interest and did not respond. A second replied that it did not have resources available to assist us in the requested time frame. Two firms, Storbeck/Pimentel and RPA, Inc. responded affirmatively and were invited to make on campus presentations. On Thursday, August 20, 2009, Serra Goethals, Nancy Warfield and Carl Thomas met with Steve Leo from Storbeck/Pimentel and Richard Allen of RPA, Inc. Both gentlemen made impressive presentations. After a thorough discussion and review at the board meeting on Friday, August 21, the trustees unanimously agreed that Richard Allen should be engaged. His extensive experience, his sterling references and his chemistry with us were the deciding factors. Richard has begun building a timeline for the search which will be available and shared with you very shortly. The first step in the process will be to conduct “listening sessions” on campus with individuals and groups to develop the profile of our ideal candidate. These sessions will occur on September 23 and 24, 2009. More details about these sessions will be forthcoming in the next few days.
