Spalding Establishes over 1.5 Million Dollars in Education Scholarships
President Tori Murden McClure and Spalding’s Board of Trustees have approved the establishment of over 1.5 million dollars in scholarships to support individuals who want to enter the teaching profession or further their education by enrolling in one of the College of Education’s master’s degree programs.
“By supporting teachers, school counselors, and principals, we at Spalding University are stepping forward to do our part to foster the love for learning that will elevate the thinking and the earning potential of citizens in our community,” says McClure.
To be eligible for scholarship dollars that would reduce the cost of tuition from $640 to $350 per credit hour, individuals must enroll in the one of the eight programs offered by the College of Education by the summer 2011. Programs available for scholarships, many of which have been redesigned to meet the most recent state standards, include the following areas of focus:
Master of Arts in Teaching – Elementary Education
Master of Arts in Teaching – Middle Grades & Secondary
Master of Arts in Teaching – Alternative Certification Program
Master of Arts in Teaching – Learning Behavior Disorders Alternative Cert. Program
Master of Arts in Teaching – Learning Behavior Disorders Traditional Program
Master of Arts in School Guidance Counseling
Master of Education Teacher Leadership
Master of Education Principal Preparation Program, Rank I
Applicants admitted to one of the programs listed above will receive scholarship money for the two years necessary to complete the program amounting to approximately $10,000. Spalding’s College of Education supports the Louisville workforce, and the decision to launch this scholarship program is aimed to support the community’s commitment to the 55,000 degrees initiative.
