Welcome to the School of Business!
I have been teaching as an Assistant Professor at Spalding University since 2007, and I really enjoy both Spalding and teaching. I teach a business computer applications class and a variety of accounting classes. The accounting classes that I normally teach are Principles, Intermediate, Not-for-Profit and Governmental, and Auditing. I have also taught Tax occasionally. Accounting is a fast-growing job market and can be a wonderful career choice. Just think about the fact that every company needs accounting! I truly believe that accounting can be an exciting and rewarding choice for a college major and a career.
A little about me personally
I am married and have lived in Louisville my whole life and think that it is a wonderful city in which to live. Although I love to travel and have been to some marvelous places, I really enjoy staying in my hometown of Louisville. I love animals, and I have a little dog , a 6-pound Maltese – who is my “baby”. I volunteer at the Louisville Zoo as a Docent, which means teaching classes about animals and interpreting at the animal exhibits. When I volunteer at the Zoo, I handle all types of smaller animals, such as chinchilla, rat, lizard, screech owl, ferret, etc. Much to the horror of some of my friends and family, I even handle the snakes. I also volunteer at the Junior Achievement Finance Park and Biz Town. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, home improvement projects, and all types of crafts (particularly sewing/quilting and cross-stitch).
A little about my educational and professional background
My professional background includes working as a Systems Development Specialist, a Paralegal, and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and teaching at another local university. I also served in the Air National Guard as an Intelligence Operations Specialist for a few years. I have an Associate of Applied Science, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, and a Master of Business Administration from Bellarmine University; a Master of Accountancy from University of Louisville; and a Doctorate in Education from Spalding University; all of which were completed while working full-time. I am a practicing CPA with a small sole-proprietorship business, which enables me to maintain some real-world experience to bring to my teaching. My professional memberships are Institute of Management Accountants, Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants, and American Institute of Certified Public Accounts. In addition, I actively serve on a committee at the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants.
