K.I.T.E is a technology-based activity program designed to provide positive physical, cognitive, and sensory experiences for children ages 3-12 years old. For the younger children (ages 3-6) programming occurs from 9:oo AM to 12:00 PM and older children’s programming (ages 7-12) occurs from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM each day. Kite is open to all kids with special needs.
Each day of the experience, kids are paired with Spalding University students who are studying in one of the professional programs of Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Education, or Applied Behavioral Analysis. Program participants engage in various activities such as motivational mind-body MeMoves, computer, iPad, and IPod Touch learning, play, and socialization activities, Wii Kinect gaming, digital camera use for electronic scrapbooking, music, and other targeted sensory motor experiences. All activities are imaginatively designed to meet participants’ specific needs for creative play experiences for enhancing engagement and performance.
Special snack times are embedded within each day’s programming. K.I.T.E. is designed and coordinated by experienced assistive technology professionals, occupational therapists, a speech language pathologist, and various Spalding University professional program faculty.
