Every year the School of Liberal Studies chooses a theme to further provide students with a sense of cohesion in their programs as well as opportunities to bridge their studies with the world outside the classroom. Examples of themes include: peace and social justice; gender and power; the natural environment; and diversity.
The School of Liberal Studies sponsors two annual lectures which focus on the year’s theme:
* The Keenan Lecture offered each spring to the campus and community, ties the annual theme to religious studies
* The Baseheart Lecture, offered annually, features a School of Liberal Studies faculty member presenting to colleagues and students on an area in which she or he is doing research
