Congratulations to three Spalding Athletes
SLIAC ANNOUNCES SPRING SPORTS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK FOR MARCH 21-27
St. Louis, Mo. – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the spring sports players of the week for the week of March 21-27.
BASEBALL – PITCHER
Spalding University’s Tyler Brown, a freshman from Joliet, Ill. (Joliet West), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 21-27. It marks the second time this season that he has earned the honor.
Brown, a 5-7 left-handed pitcher, threw a complete game shutout in the Golden Eagles conference opener versus Principia College. He struck out a total of 10 batters and allowed only four hits as Spalding picked up the 11-0 win.
Spalding went 4-1 for the week, including a three-game conference sweep against Principia.
BASEBALL – HITTER
Spalding University’s Kyle Barbee, a freshman from Hopkinsville, Ky. (University Heights), has been named the Diamond Sports SLIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 21-27.
Barbee, a 5-10 designated hitter/third baseman, went 10-for-12 at the plate for a .833 batting average in four games played last week. He was 3-for-3 with one double, one run scored and three RBI in a 6-4 non-conference victory versus Earlham College. Barbee hit 2-for-3 at the plate in each of the Golden Eagles three conference games against Principia College. He added two RBI in the third game of the series, in which Spalding won 9-5.
Spalding went 4-1 for the week, including a three-game conference sweep versus Principia.
SOFTBALL – HITTER
Spalding University’s Hannah Stucker, a freshman from Shelbyville, Ky. (Shelby County), has been named the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 21-27.
Stucker batted .571 in two games played last week. She was 4-for-7 at the plate with one double, one home run and two runs scored. She finished 2-for-3, including a solo home run, and had two stolen bases as Spalding defeated Principia College 5-0 in conference play. The Golden Eagles completed the double header sweep of the Panthers with a 10-1 victory, as Stucker tallied two hits, including one double.
