With wintry weather upon us – and man, it’s been ridiculously cold in the first week of 2018 – it serves as a good time to remind the Spalding University community to sign up for the E2 Campus Alert messaging system, which provides instant notifications about potential Spalding weather closings, delays or early dismissals.
You can sign up for the alerts at http://www2.spalding.edu/e2campus/alerts.html. If you’ve already signed up, you can go to that same link to make sure your contact info and preferred mode of notification are up to date.
The messages relating to campus weather will typically fall into one of two categories: Campus Closed or Delayed Start/Early Dismissal
As stated in recent campus memo by Dean of Students Rick Hudson, in the case of “Campus Closed,” the campus is closed for the day, and only specifically designated staff in areas such as campus safety, dining, facilities and res life should be present on campus for the day. Faculty should post alternate content on Moodle for the day to compensate for missed class time and note to students to check Moodle for this material in their syllabi. Students should check Moodle for these assignments whenever campus is closed.
In the case of a “Delayed Start” time, all faculty, staff and students would report to where they would normally be at the time of opening and resume a normal schedule from that point on for the remainder of the day. In the case of an “Early Dismissal,” the campus will close at a designated time which is earlier than typical, and all classes, events and activities schedule after that time would be canceled.
Please note that decisions regarding weather-based closure/delays are based on the conditions on and near campus. If the campus is open, but conditions where you live are hazardous, we encourage each student to make the best choice for their safety.
In addition – please take a moment to review Spalding’s inclement Weather Policy at https://spalding.edu/weather-alerts/ to familiarize yourself with this important information and the various outlets we utilize to share campus scheduling changes due to inclement weather.
