Bachelor of Science in Health Science

If you desire to work in healthcare systems or organizations providing health-related services to individuals, groups or communities, then the Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree is designed for you. Discover your passions within the healthcare field through hands-on experiential learning. Additionally, you will be prepared to transition to one of our graduate programs in occupational therapy, athletic training or nursing.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Science (BSHS) offers four pathways that lead to graduate study:

This 3+2 program allows you to earn both your bachelor’s and your master’s in five years. You’ll begin your graduate study in Spalding’s Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program while you complete your bachelor’s in health science. As a health science major at Spalding, you will receive a preferred status when applying to the MSAT program.

This is an excellent pathway for you to obtain an advanced degree in a rapidly growing field. You can begin your graduate studies in our Master of Science in Health Science while completing your bachelor’s in health science. Eligible student will have a GPA of 3.0 or higher after completing 75 hours.

This 3+4 program allows you to complete a year of doctoral level work while completing your undergraduate degree. As a health science major at Spalding, you’ll have admission assurance to Spalding’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program when you meet the DPT program’s benchmarks. You’ll be eligible to apply for the program during your junior year of Spalding’s BSHS.

This is an excellent pathway for you to reach your goal of becoming an occupational therapist. As a health science major at Spalding, you’ll have admission assurance to Spalding’s Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program when you meet the OTD program’s benchmarks. You’ll be eligible to apply for OTD admissions six months before you graduate (upon completion of 60 credit hours at Spalding). You can start your doctoral study once you’ve obtained your bachelor’s degree.

Spalding is home to the first accredited professional master’s program in athletic training in the state of Kentucky and the only master’s level occupational therapy training program in Metro Louisville.
