This course will provide information on the following:

  • Prevalence, natural history, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of HIV
  • A full discussion of how the virus replicates in the blood cell and pharmacological approaches to slow HIV replication
  • Counseling procedures will be presented with information on the best prevention methods including negotiating condom use and approaches to educate the public on how to employ prevention methods
  • A portion of the training will discuss mother to child transmissions with attention to special concerns with this group and the effects of stigma
