Transition from 6-Week Sessions to 8-Week Sessions

Transition from 6-Week Sessions to 8-Week Sessions

In an effort to enhance the academic experience, Spalding University is transitioning from the traditional 6-week course sessions to a more structured 8-week format. This change is designed to provide students with more time to absorb and engage with course material, improve retention and academic performance, and offer faculty greater opportunities to foster meaningful connections with students.

Why Are We Making the Change?

The shift to 8-week sessions aligns with current best practices in higher education. This format provides a balance between the intensity of accelerated learning and the time needed for deeper understanding. Whether you’re a student or faculty member, this change will allow for:

Increased flexibility: More time to balance coursework with work or personal commitments.

Improved learning outcomes: More time for students to grasp course material and engage in assignments and discussions.

Better pacing: A slightly elongated pace that helps reduce burnout while still maintaining a rigorous academic environment.

Fridays will remain a day without classes as the university transitions to the 8-week format

What Does This Mean for Students and Faculty?

For Students: You’ll still complete the same number of credits in a semester, but with a more manageable workload spread over a longer period. This provides a better opportunity for deeper engagement in your courses.

For Faculty: You’ll have more time to guide students through the course content and provide timely feedback. This allows for more interactive and meaningful class discussions and assessments.
