Professor to Lend Healthcare Support to Small Village in Belize

January 7-18, Dr. Erlene Grise-Owens, School of Social Work professor & Master of Social Work director, will engage in the International Health and Human Service Learning program in Gales Point, Belize.  This interdisciplinary collaboration, with Western Kentucky University, provides the only health and wellness clinic available in this under-served rural area. Grise-Owens says:

“This annual trip involves interdisciplinary work amongst several health and human services disciplines.  Faculty, students, and community partners offer health and dental screenings and services.  As a global citizen, I expect that this trip broaden my horizons and that I will learn much from the Belizeans I encounter.  This cross-cultural learning will enrich my teaching. Thus, this service learning experience lives out SU’s mission by extending the “diverse community of learners” to this rural village of Gales Point and back into the urban context of my teaching.”
