Parent & Family FAQ
First-Year Students

The first step for every admitted student is to submit the enrollment deposit. Students can complete this task, and other important first steps in their enrollment, by logging in to their SU Admitted Student Portal. Students can access the portal and other important information on our Admitted Student Information page.

Once your student has deposited and is given access to their student portal, they can register for beSU Orientation and complete the final steps of their enrollment from there.

As a parent or guardian, your attendance is encouraged, but not required. We will cover topics that may be of value to you, including financial information, academic advising, campus life and more.

There isn’t a “one-size fits all” approach to helping your student adjust. However, many of Spalding’s own faculty and staff have experienced sending a freshman off to college. Read our blog about Sending a Student Off to College for advice, tips and lessons-learned from parents in our Spalding community.

Paying for College

Tuition is due by the first day of class each semester, fall and spring.  Payment plans and payment in full can be arranged through the Spalding student portal. If you have questions about your billing statement, you can contact the Bursar’s Office at [email protected]. See Financial Aid FAQ for more information.

As part of the Federal Work Study program we offer paid, part-time employment to undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need. Many of these positions are on-campus jobs, working for the university. For more information, contact the Office of Financial Aid at (502) 873-4330.

The Spalding University Career Design Center can also help you find part-time or volunteer opportunities to build skill development relevant to your course of study.

Living on Campus

Residence Life believes that student learning and personal development strengthens when students live on campus. Therefore, all full-time undergraduate students under the age of 21 (by August 1 for fall semester and February 1 for spring semester), or with fewer than 89 credit hours are required to live in the residence halls. However, there are exceptions.

Students who meet the following conditions may request a housing exemption:

  • Residing with local parent(s)/legal guardian within 60 miles from the campus’ mailing address.
  • Financial hardship in that the student cannot afford campus housing.
  • Documented medical condition in which living on campus would affect a student’s health negatively.
  • Married legally, Spalding does not provide housing for married couples.
  • Dependent(s) (e.g., children), Spalding cannot accommodate children with campus housing.

Students can apply for on-campus housing by logging in to their SU Admitted Student portal. To live on campus, we ask that students fill out a housing application, pay a $100 housing deposit and submit their immunizations and insurance information.

Students who submitted their housing form by our recommended housing deadline (May 1) will receive their housing assignments May 20. Housing assignments include:

  • Move-In dates and times and directions. Students will select a two-hour block to move onto campus.
  • Packing list
  • Residence hall information
  • Residence Life policies and procedures

If students submit the housing form after May 20, they must wait five business days for Residence Life to process and provide a housing assignment. If this processing period occurs while school is in session, the student holds responsibility for finding alternative housing while waiting to receive a housing assignment.

The student preference questions we ask on our housing form help provide you with the right roommate. Once you move on campus, your Resident Assistant (RA) will help you transition to your new community and have a memorable year.

Getting Involved in Campus Life

At Spalding, you will find everything from social clubs, honors societies, and academic organizations, to service opportunities, and health and wellbeing services. Our Student Involvement Fair is a great way to learn how to get involved both on and off campus. Read our blog on how to Get Involved on Campus in 3 Simple Steps.

Spalding University Athletics is a NCAA Division III program made up of 17 men’s, women’s and co-ed teams across the following sports: archery, baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, track & field and volleyball.

Spalding University strictly adheres to NCAA Division-III guidelines. In order for new students to compete in intercollegiate athletics at Spalding University, an incoming freshman or transfer student must meet the necessary standards to be admitted into the university. Unlike NCAA Divisions I and II, it is not necessary to file with the NCAA Clearinghouse to gain initial eligibility. Learn more about eligibility and compliance.

Maintaining Health and Safety

We offer low-cost health and counseling services ($100 annual fee) to all Spalding students. The Eagle Care Health Clinic is staffed by a Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, and Athletic Trainer. The primary focus of our healthcare clinic is to promote health and wellness through appropriate diagnosis, treatment and patient education. Services include basic testing, immunizations and the treatment of common illnesses and minor injuries.

The Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS), we’re here to listen and provide confidential, unbiased support to students. Services include, but are not limited to, individual counseling, online screenings and psychological assessments.

The Department of Campus Safety helps to promote and provide a safe living, learning, and working environment for all members and guests of the Spalding University community.

The Campus Safety officers secure all buildings on campus, patrol campus grounds, and respond to calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Spalding University offers emergency alerts to all students, faculty and staff. Spalding’s Omnilert e2Campus Alert System sends out important information to help keep our campus safe. Messages may include campus lockdown procedures, or campus closed, delayed start, or early dismissal due to inclement weather.

For assistance or a campus emergency, call (502) 873-4444 or ext. 4444 from any campus phone.
