Transcript Legend

Historically, Spalding University has its roots in Nazareth College & Academy established by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1814 in Bardstown, KY. In 1920, Nazareth College was opened in Louisville, the first four-year Catholic College for women in the Commonwealth, and one year later Nazareth Junior College was formally opened on the old Nazareth Campus in Bardstown. The two institutions were merged in 1940 into Nazareth College with two campuses.
The two separated in 191 and merged again in 1969 to form Spalding College. In May of 1971 all instruction activity was consolidated on the Louisville campus.
In 1973, Spalding was incorporated as an independent, urban, coeducation institution in the Catholic tradition for students of all backgrounds. In 1984, in recognition of the wide range of programs offered, the institution was designated Spalding University.

Explanation of Transcript
Spalding University’s academic year includes six (6) eight-week undergraduate sessions (class time equivalent to a semester), two graduate semesters, and three graduate summer sessions. Each graduate semester is 15 to 16 weeks in length; two of the summer sessions are five weeks each and one is three weeks. In addition, Spalding offers a variety of accelerated programs lasting 5- to 10-weeks in length. The normal class load for a student is 16 to 17 hours a semester, 6 to 9 hours in an accelerated program, 3 hours in a three-week summer session, and 6 hours in a 5-week summer session. A credit or semester hour represents the satisfactory completion of one hour of class work or two hours of laboratory work a week for one semester. Hours attempted do not include those for which the student received grades of: PASS, FAIL, AU, X, W, or I. Not all credits granted are degree applicable.
Production of the computer-generated transcript began in the fall of 1996. Work prior to fall 1996 may be of a hand-typed nature or produced through labels applied to a record and then copied onto transcript paper.
