Grants
These federal and state awards are gifts to students and do not need to be repaid. Most grants are awarded based on financial need. You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid each year to be eligible for grants.
Types of Grants
Federal Pell Grant
The maximum Federal Pell Grant is $7,395 for 2024-2025 (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025). The grant award is based on the family’s expected contribution amount as calculated by the FAFSA.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
The SEOG is up to $1000 per year per student. The total amount may vary as Spalding’s total SEOG funding is determined by the number of students who are Pell Grant eligible.
College Access Program (CAP) Grant
The College Access Program Grant (CAP) is up to $5,300 for 2024-2025. This grant is available to Kentucky residents who are Pell Grant eligible and awarded by the state.
Kentucky Tuition Grant (KTG)
The Kentucky Tuition Grant (KTG) is up to $3,300 for 2024-2025. It is available to Kentucky residents who attend a private college or university and is awarded by the state.
Health Resources and Services Administration — HRSA Grants
This grant award enables the School of Social Work to provide scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have financial need in order to increase diversity in the health workforce.
SDS grant-funded scholarships are available to students in the following programs:
- Master of Social Work (MSW) total grant award (over five years): $1,281,150; total scholarship dollars: $1,281,150

This grant award enables the School of Professional Psychology (SOPP) and School of Social Work (SSW) to expand opportunities for interdisciplinary behavioral health training in primary care settings serving vulnerable and medically underserved populations. The total grant award (over four years) is $1,149,483, and the total stipend is $690,336.
