Flex Your Skills on & off the Field at Spalding

NCAA D-III Athletics

We are Louisville’s first and only D-III university. As a D-III student athlete, you can successfully engage in athletic competition without sacrificing what it takes to earn a college degree. Join Golden Eagle athletics: choose from our 18 men’s and women’s sports teams.

Flexible Block Schedule

With our flexible eight-week block schedule, you, too, can find balance and success in your sport, your major, your internship and whatever else competes for your time. Focus on one or two classes at a time while also improving your skills with your team.

Travel and Transportation

Spalding Athletics provides transportation for student athletes by chartered buses with drivers. Travel to new cities with your teammates and experience the ins-and-outs of being a D-III athlete.

Affordable Private Education

Play a sport AND receive a quality education. You won’t have to sacrifice quality for cost! Pay a rate similar to — or even less than — that of a public university. Our admissions team will work with you to find scholarships and grant opportunities. You are eligible for up to $14,000 in scholarships when you apply.

Small Campus, Big City

Located in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, our city is a vibrant extension of campus. You’ll be within miles to the coolest restaurants, sports venues, and athletic fields. Be connected to the Louisville community with athletic competitions, networking opportunities, jobs, internships, and more.

Athletic Facilities and Workout Centers

As a Golden Eagle, you’ll have access to the best athletic facilities: the historic Columbia Gym, Derby City Field, and Persimmon Ridge Golf Club, and multipurpose turf fields, just a few blocks from campus. Stay tuned for the new Athletic Field House coming soon.

Soar Higher as a Golden Eagle

Spalding University gives student athletes the opportunity to take their sport and education to new heights. With our mission-focused spirit, students develop leadership skills, build self-esteem, and grow with their classmates and teammates.

The Word on Campus

“If I could describe being a student-athlete at Spalding University I would say, 'My Time, My Way.' The block schedule allows me to have time to do everything I want to do, especially playing sports. Bowling is a weekend-only sport that lasts three days. Not having class on Friday allows us to leave Thursday and we don't miss any classes.”

Lacey Blevins
Bowler, Business Administration Marketing and Finance Concentration, Class of 2025

“The six-week block format has been very helpful for me. I’ve been able to focus on one or two classes at a time, and that is so helpful for an athlete like me.”

Maleah Hirn
Women’s Basketball Player, Natural Science Major, Class of 2020

“As a soccer player, Spalding’s block scheduling gives me time to focus on my nursing classes while improving my game with my team.’”

Jenna Salins
Juli Nelson, Soccer Player, Nursing Major, Class of 2024
