Athletic Training Admission Requirements
Application Deadline
The MSAT program will accept applications on a rolling basis. Qualified applicants will be admitted first come, first served until capacity. It is recommended to apply early. The MSAT program now uses ATCAS for the application process. ATCAS charges a fee for application to programs. ATCAS does have a limited number of fee waivers available for qualified applicants. Admission Requirements
Complete an online application through ATCAS. Be sure to include the following:
- Official transcripts submitted through ATCAS
- Signed MSAT Technical Standards Form
- Signed Statement of Professionalism
- Personal Statement
- Three (3) Recommendations through ATCAS
- Minimum of one (1) from college instructor, and one (1) from certified athletic trainer
The GRE is not required for admission. Please review the MSAT admission materials (PDF) before applying.
The MSAT program is not responsible for documents lost in the mail, and all submitted application materials become the property of the School.
*Official transcripts are those sent directly to Spalding from the issuing institution. Any transcript marked “issued to student” or any transcript that is hand delivered by the student is not considered an official transcript.
Entry-level, Combined Bachelor’s and Master’s Program
If you are an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Science in Health Science or the Bachelor of Science in Natural Science, you must apply and be admitted into Spalding University prior to applying to the Master of Science in Athletic Training program. Once admitted to Spalding University as an undergraduate you must successfully complete 55 credit hours of the University Study Program including a minimum of 9 of the required 13 prerequisite courses with cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, before you submit your application to the professional MSAT program. You must identify on the application how you intend to complete the remaining 4 prerequisites before athletic training program courses start.
NOTE: Undergraduate admission into Spalding University as a Pre-MSAT student does not guarantee admission into the MSAT professional program. Based upon the student’s completion of the admission requirements, the applicant will be eligible for consideration for admission to the program.
Admission Process
Admission to the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program is competitive and primarily based on an applicant’s CORE GPA (see prerequisite courses section of the catalog), recommendation letters, written essay, and an arranged interview with the MSAT program faculty.
If accepted to the program, you will learn of the next steps in the admission process and will be notified in writing as to your admission status by the program director.
Admission to the MSAT is awarded on spaces available basis. If admitted, students must submit a $200 tuition deposit to reserve their position prior to beginning the program.
Selected applicants who withdraw or drop any pre-requisite courses registered for at time of application will lose his/her program seat.
Additional Information
It is preferred that program applicants have a cumulative and core GPA at or above 3.0 at time of application to the professional phase of the program.
Any applicant who has a felony conviction or record containing illegal, unethical, or incompetent behaviors may jeopardize his or her ability to obtain certification or licensure to practice as an athletic trainer. Prior to applying to the MSAT program, please contact the Board of Certification (BOC) to request a predetermination of eligibility. The professional practice and discipline committee reviews all convictions. Candidates are notified in writing of the committee’s decision. Please include a copy of the results of the committee’s decision with your application.
