Education Admission Requirements
To apply to a graduate program in our College of Education, you must complete an online application. In addition, your program of choice may require additional information. See your program’s specific admission requirements:
MA in School Counseling
The MA in School Counseling requires the following items:
- Undergraduate degree from regionally-accredited school with 2.75 GPA
- Current Resume
- Submit two (2) letters of recommendation
- Written essay
- Interview
- Submission of program application and transcripts

MA in Teaching
The MA in Teaching requires the following items:
- A bachelor’s degree or advanced degree awarded by a regionally accredited college or university with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale; or a grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale on the last thirty (30) hours of credit completed, including undergraduate and graduate coursework
- Test scores (Core Academic Skills for Educators – CASE)
- CASE Required Scores
- Mathematics Qualifying Score – 150
- Reading Qualifying Score – 156
- Writing Qualifying Score – 162
- GRE Required Scores: In lieu of the Core Academic Skills for Educators exam, candidates may submit successful completion of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) administered by the Education Testing Service with the following qualifying scores*:
- Quantitative Reasoning taken prior to August 1, 2011 – 490, or Quantitative Reasoning taken after August 1, 2011 – 143
- Verbal Reasoning taken prior to August 1, 2011 – 450; or Verbal Reasoning taken after August 1, 2011 – 150
- Analytical Writing – 4.0
- Interview
- Résumé
- Submit three (3) favorable letters of recommendation
- Official transcripts from all colleges attended
- Evidence that the applicant has reviewed: The Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky School Certified Personnel established in 16 KAR 1:020
- Evidence that the applicant has reviewed: The character and fitness questionnaire contained in Section III of the TC-1 incorporated by reference in 16 KAR 2:010
- Authorization of Criminal Records Check
*Note: A passing score on a test established at the time of administration shall be valid for the purpose of applying for certification for five (5) years from the test administration date (16 KAR6:010).
MAT candidates interested in the Alternative Certification route must first be admitted into the College of Education. Upon admittance into the College of Education, MAT candidates may request a meeting with the Director of Initial Certification Programs to learn more about the Alternative Certification route.

MEd in Instructional Leadership
The MEd in Instructional Leadership requires the following items:
- Qualifications for Kentucky Teaching Certification
- Completion of at least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience
- Submission of program application and transcripts

MEd in Learner-Centered Practices
The MEd in Learner-Centered Practices requires the following items:
- All candidates must meet current admission criteria as designated by the College of Education of Spalding University
- Candidates must have baccalaureate degree, a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average, or a 3.0 grade point average during the last 30 hours of coursework
- Spalding College of Education Requirements:
- Complete COE application
- Submit of official transcripts from all universities attended
- Complete Personal Essay
- Submit two (2) letters of recommendation
- Submit professional resume

MEd in Learner-Centered Systems
The MEd in Learner-Centered Systems requires the following items:
- All candidates must meet current admission criteria as designated by the College of Education of Spalding University
- Candidates must have baccalaureate degree, a minimum 2.75 cumulative grade point average, or a 3.0 grade point average during the last 30 hours of coursework
- Spalding College of Education Requirements:
- Complete COE application
- Submit of official transcripts from all universities attended

MEd in Teacher Leader
The MEd in Teacher Leader requires the following items:
- Undergraduate degree from a regionally-accredited university with a 2.75 GPA
- Current Kentucky Teaching Certificate
- Submit two (2) favorable letters of recommendation. One must be from a direct supervisor;
- An interview with faculty
- Completed application packet
