Commencement Countdown | Q&A with KJ Abrams

Amanda Lucas

KJ Abrams is a first-generation student. He earned his bachelor’s from Spalding in 2017 and completed his MSBC degree in a year.  He talks about his accomplishments and his Spalding experience.

What is your favorite Spalding memory?

I have two favorite memories while attending Spalding University: 1) Winning the 2014-2015 SLIAC Conference basketball championship, and moving along to play in the Division 3 NCAA tournament. 2) Becoming the very first Homecoming King at the University. I think it’s safe to say when you mention Muhammad Ali at Spalding, you could mention KJ Abrams in the same sentence. We are in the history books.

What accomplishments are you most proud of during your time at Spalding?

My biggest accomplishment while attending Spalding was finishing and receiving my double bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Accounting. I set the example for my family to let them know anything is possible with a lot of hard work.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

My favorite spot on campus is the University Center Student Lounge. I could remember seeing friends and teammates hangout in there. It also used to be the spot where I completed homework and took a nap in between my schedule.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?

Spalding University has become my second home. I made many friends and built relationships that will last forever. I want to thank everyone at Spalding who has helped me along the journey. God Bless!
