Take your leadership skills to the next level by earning a Rank I certificate in either the School Counseling, School Principal, or planned sixth-year program that includes our EdD in Leadership program. University faculty and P-12 school leaders collaborate to help you to develop professional dispositions, strategies and skills that will enable you to interact effectively with students, families, colleagues and communities.
School Counseling
Be an advocate for your students and assist in developing the whole person through academic and social-emotional supports and career guidance. You will complete this program with the knowledge to help students meet their highest academic, personal and social potential. The Master of Arts in School Counseling combines coursework with field experience to provide a professional-ready education in a flexible, manageable timeframe. As a student in this program, you will:
- Gain 100 hours of counseling experience during a supervised practicum
- Develop the skills necessary to facilitate high-level learning and counseling for all students
- Learn how to provide individualized support to a diverse population of students
- Apply counseling and development theories and research to school practice

School Principal
The Rank I program provides coursework for candidates interested in initial school principal certification in Kentucky. This 30-hour program meets the requirements for Kentucky Level 1 and Rank I teacher certifications. The program combines relevant and engaging coursework, school-based clinical field experiences, and access to former and current school leaders and administrators to deliver a high-quality and relevant examination of the work of a school leader. As a student in this program, you will:
- Design and evaluate school-based instructional programs
- Promote a strong and equitable school culture
- Develop and support instructional and support staff
- Manage school operations
- Leverage school and community resources
- Facilitate school improvement planning

Planned Sixth Year
The Planned Sixth Year – Teacher Leader Program is designed for individuals committed to the classroom who plan to further their professional teacher education. As a student in this certificate program, you will:
