The inductees bring decades of service and education to the university.
The Spalding University Board of Trustees appointed four new members to the governing body. Brenda J. Gonzales, Sister of Charity of Nazareth; Bridget Papalia, J.D.; Marsha C. Weinstein and Thomas Williams Jr., Ph.D.
The four bring a variety of experience and expertise, including campus ministry, legal counsel, activism for women’s issues and early education.
- Brenda J. Gonzales, Sister of Charity of Nazareth, was formerly campus minister for Spalding University in 1991, and recently was Director of Doors to Hope, a nonprofit for women and migrant families.
- Bridget Papalia, J.D., is an attorney and advocate of entrepreneurship and previously worked as General Counsel to the Kentucky Cabinet for Education and Workforce Development.
- Marsha C. Weinstein is a civic organizer who was inducted into the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights’ Hall of Fame in 2010 and is Co-President of the National Collaborative for Women’s History Sites.
- Thomas Williams Jr., Ph.D., most recently served as a state level Early Learning Administrator with the Kentucky Department of Education.
The experience and expertise of the new board members round out the many talents of the Board. Their connections in Louisville and respective industries opens pathways to increase Spalding’s community impact.
The Board of Trustees guides the university and advances its mission by addressing “the needs of the times”. The board consults and advises on new academic programs, new university offerings and new ways to serve students. The board members also have a direct impact on Spalding’s talent recruitment and geographic footprint. Moving forward, they can expect to work on projects related to fundraising and increased opportunities for immersive education.
